SN 1987A in the LMC - UBVRI photometry at Cerro Tololo The paper presents UBVRI photometry of the Type II supernova 1987A inthe Large Magellanic Cloud for the first 177 days since outburst. Thisphotometry is used to construct the bolometric luminosity andeffective-temperature evolution of 1987A. It is found that 1987Adecreased in luminosity very rapidly over the first 8 days, slowlyincreased in luminosity up until day 90, and since day 120 has beendeclining exponentially at 0.010 mag per day. The general shape of thebolometric light curve is close to the predicted curve based onradioactive decay of CO-56 in the remnant. 1987A was compared with otherType II SNe, and it is found that, although Type II's show a large rangein intrinsic luminosity over the first 100 days, their subsequentluminosity evolution is much more uniform.
